How We Help

Epic Family Retreats exists to walk alongside families facing a life-threatening diagnosis by providing practical support, meaningful experiences, and fully customized family retreats designed to create lasting memories during an incredibly difficult season.

Epic Family Retreats

At the heart of our mission is the Epic Family Retreats experience.

We plan, fund, and personally coordinate custom retreats for the entire family. Every retreat is designed around the unique needs, interests, and personalities of the family we are serving.

We begin by interviewing the parents to understand their story, their needs, and what would bring their family joy during this season. When children are old enough, we also ask them what they would love to do — because every voice in the family matters.

No two retreats are the same. Each one is intentionally built to create connection, rest, joy, and unforgettable shared experiences.

A Real Example: The Hupp Family Retreat

Our first EPIC Family Retreat is for the Hupp family, where the father — a youth pastor — is currently battling lymphoma. He and his wife have six children, ranging in age from 16 years old to 3 years old.

Because this is our first retreat, we are starting small and building thoughtfully. This two-day experience is designed to give the family time together, moments of joy, and a break from the weight of their daily reality.

Day One: Adventure and Connection

The family will begin their retreat by being picked up in a coach style bus. We will then chauffeur them to Treehouse Adventure Park in Bailey, Colorado. This outdoor adventure park features zip lines, ropes courses, climbing obstacles, and guided experiences designed for all ages and ability levels.

After a day of adventure, the family will travel to Glenwood Springs, where they will stay at a five-star resort with full amenities, including time to rest and enjoy the pool together.

That evening, while the children are cared for by the EPIC support team, Kalid and Denise will take the parents out for a special dinner. The children will enjoy a fun and relaxing evening at the resort with dinner, pool time, and a movie with popcorn.

Day Two: Mountain Adventure

The next day, the Hupp family will visit Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park — the only mountaintop theme park in the United States.

Located at 7,160 feet on Iron Mountain, this unique park combines thrilling rides, family attractions, and historic cave tours. The experience begins with a scenic gondola ride up the mountain, offering breathtaking views and a shared sense of adventure.

Additional Support for Every Family

EPIC Family Retreats also provides practical, behind-the-scenes support designed to lift burdens from families during and after their retreat.

One of the ways we do this is by arranging for a professional cleaning service to deep-clean the family’s home while they are away on their retreat. This allows families to return home not only refreshed from their experience, but also welcomed back into a clean, peaceful environment.

We believe even the smallest details matter — and coming home to a cared-for space is one more way to remind families that they are supported and loved.
